1.) Who are your paintings for?
I paint portraits for brides and families all over the world. People who would rather hang a
painting on their wall than an enlarged photo. People who are moved by having their most
important moments and loved ones displayed as a work of art in their home, office, or to give
as a gift.
2.) How do you paint on a computer?
Everything starts with a photo, usually provided by my clients. Using new digital technology
such as a computerized 'pen and tablet', as well as state-of-the-art software, I lay down
actual brush strokes much like I would with traditional paint. A special print called a
'Giclee' (pronounced zhee-klay) is then made on canvas.
3.) How are your paintings different from filters in Photoshop?
It's the difference between machine made and hand made. Filters are automated and only
simulate a painting. If you apply a filter to a photograph, the computer will simply move
pixels around trying to make the photograph look like a painting.
I paint with actual brush strokes. In addition, I am constantly making creative decisions about
color, composition, even complete background changes. Things filters just can't do.
4.) What is a "Zhee-Klay"?
Giclee is now becoming the method of choice for fine art printing among galleries and artists,
quickly replacing lithographs and serigraphs. Licensed Giclee printing specialists use
hi-tech systems that apply fine droplets of pigment directly onto canvas. Longevity, accuracy,
and beauty are a few of the reasons the Giclee method is now the gold standard for fine-art
printing. Your painting will be a Giclee.
5.) What does "hand embellished" mean?
When it's appropriate, I personally put brush to canvas, enhancing your Giclee with actual
hand varnishing for a gorgeous, brush-stroke finish.
6.) Will you help me pick my photo?
That's a good idea. You can send me several (or all) of your photos by post or e-mail and I
will help you choose the best one for your painting. I'm even happy to talk with your
photographer before your photos are taken so that you'll have a number of great possibilities
to choose from.
7.) What if I don't live in your area?
No problem. Everything can easily be done via telephone, email, and FedEx. You can have
an original Andrew Sokol painting wherever you live, anywhere in the world.
8.) Do you accept credit cards?
Yes.
9.) How much will my painting cost?
About the same as you'd pay a photographer for a retouched photo. Because your painting is
custom, I can give you an exact quote after we've selected a photo and talked about the kind
of painting you'd like. Contact me now for more information.
10.) How long will it take and how do I start?
Allow 2-3 weeks for painting and 2-3 weeks for printing/shipping.
